According to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), on average, it takes around 45 hours of lessons to learn to drive, with additional 22 hours of practising. But don’t take this to heart. Some drivers may need less, and some drivers may need more. The truth is that it doesn’t matter how many lessons it takes to pass your test, but that you pass it as a safe driver. The most efficient way to find out what’s going on is to ask your driving instructor toward the end of the lesson. They will be in a superior situation to advise you as they will have seen you drive.
On average, the total lesson time for beginners with Latif Driving Center for the manual transmission is 25 to 35 hours, and for automatic is 20 to 30 hours. It is just a guideline; lessons’ duration can vary, depending on every individual. For example, if you are already riding a bicycle or motorbike according to rules or being a passenger with a good driver, then you learn much quicker. Also, age plays a good part in learning.
You can start your driving lessons once you have a valid UK provisional driving license.
Yes, you can. It’s recommended that you start lessons while waiting for your theory test date. The practical experience will help you understand the theory and hazard perception elements of learning to drive. This will greatly assist you in passing the theory test and hazard perception test the first time. The instructor also helps you to explain in a logical way so you understand if the same question comes up in a different phrase.
An intensive driving course or a crash course is a series of driving lessons which give you the opportunity to be ready for your driving test in a week or two rather than months. Usually, each session lasts a minimum of two hours and a maximum of five hours.
Intensive courses are regarded as the fastest way to pass the practical test. These courses are popular because tuition is taken over 6 days enabling everything you learn to remain fresh in your mind. If you like doing things fast, an intensive course is best for you.
Whatever course pace you select depends on you and getting the right driving instructor who is an expert in doing them.
We have different courses to choose from. You can select from 5 hours course to 45 hours course. You and your instructor will be in the best position to select the best course. According to the DVSA, it takes an average of 45 hours of driving tuition to get up to passing standards. If you are a complete beginner, we would recommend taking one of our longer courses to ensure you’re prepared for the test. If you have more driving experience, a shorter course is likely to be more suitable.
It is usually possible to add more hours to your course. However, to fit the added hours in, your instructor might ask you to reschedule your practical test date. Because of this, it’s advisable to book the right number of hours rather than trying your luck with fewer lessons.
To add extra hours to your course, please call us on 020 3633 4488.
If you end up passing with fewer lessons than you booked, you can use these for further tuition (motorway tuition, for example). Unfortunately, due to the all-inclusive nature of our courses, any unused hours are non-refundable.
We give you everything you need to help you pass, including:
• Fast-track theory test (if needed).
• Fast-tracked practical tests at the end of your course
• One-to-one tuition from a local, DVSA-approved driving instructor
• Lessons that fit into your schedule
• Home and workplace pickups in most cases

To give you the best chance of passing, we design our courses around the practical test date. Once a suitable date has been agreed upon, we will assign an instructor who is able to match your availability.
Building your course this way helps to keep your lessons as close to the test date as possible. This is because everything you learn is fresh in your mind for the big day.
Please be prepared to wait a bit longer than usual for your lessons to start — driving instructors are still in extremely high demand after lockdowns.
Our course prices vary by location, course length, vehicle type (manual and auto), and whether you choose to include a theory and/or practical test as part of your booking.
For full details about each of our ten courses, visit our prices page.
Yes! You can add a theory test to any course. We will use our fast-track system to secure a test at a time and location to suit you.
No — you can book a Latif Driving Center course without having passed your theory. Latif Driving Center can book your theory for you as part of your course at an additional cost of £39.
One thing to remember is that you must pass your theory test before the DVSA allows us to book your practical test. Due to this, our course completion estimate starts when you tell us you have passed the theory test.
We do offer one-to-one training. When you start the lesson with an instructor, he will help you to understand the theory and explain the logic behind the theory questions. There are many free online materials available to read.
Yeah — we can change your theory or practical test after we’ve booked it. There is an admin fee of £48 for us to fast-track your test again.
We also advise against changing your test where possible, because it will usually delay your course by a few weeks. But, if you’re happy to push things back a little, we’re more than happy to find you a new test.
Don’t panic if you fail your first theory. We’ll be able to book another one for you for just £40. We’ll also fast-track it, meaning you’ll typically be able to sit it again within 4–6 weeks.
Latif Driving Center usually beats DVSA waiting times by several weeks. Although we are unable to give exact dates, your preferred time, date, and location will always be taken into account when finding your ideal test. It’s recommended book your test as you start taking lessons so your test comes just after you finish your lesson.
We will need to check if instructors are available in your area for your current test date. In the event that we are unable to secure an instructor for your test, our fast-tracking department will be happy to assist you in arranging a new date.
Yes, of course! If we have an instructor available for your practical test, Latif Driving Center can usually help schedule it for an earlier date.

In a small minority of cases, a learner may be assigned an instructor that is not the right fit.
It doesn’t happen often, but we’ll work closely with the learner to find a suitable resolution, including the possibility of changing to a different instructor. If we do need to assign a different instructor, then it might also be necessary to change the test date, depending on the new instructor’s availability.
Yes, of course! It’s important to take breaks during the lesson and make sure you are comfortable and alert. The total course time includes any breaks that the driving instructor may feel necessary for the safety of both (you and the driving instructor) in accordance with any regulations.
It’s also a smart idea to take a bottle of water and a snack to longer lessons — driving can be thirsty work!
It is usually possible to resolve this issue by having a chat with your instructor. In this case, it’s likely that your test will need to be rescheduled to accommodate your lessons in advance.

FAQs for UK Familiarisation Course
The UK familiarisation driving course is specifically designed for individuals new to driving in the United Kingdom, including international drivers. It aims to provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the variations in driving practices and laws compared to their home country and help them adjust to driving in the UK.
The UK familiarisation driving course typically covers topics such as the UK Highway Code, driving laws and regulations, road safety, traffic system and road network, parking and manoeuvring, driving in different environments, vehicle familiarisation, hazard awareness and risk management, and practical driving exercises. The specific content and duration of the course may vary depending on the learner’s ability.
It can range from a few hours to several days, depending on the depth and intensity of the training. It’s recommended to check with the course provider for the exact duration and schedule of the course.
No, a UK familiarisation course is not mandatory. However, it is highly recommended for individuals new to driving in the UK or with limited experience with UK road laws and driving practices, as it can help improve their driving skills and confidence on UK roads.
A UK familiarisation course is not a formal driving test, and completion of the course does not guarantee that you will pass the UK driving test. However, it can help improve your knowledge and skills related to UK road laws and driving practices, which may increase your chances of passing the test if you decide to take it.
• Support at every step from our friendly office team
We have a range of courses to suit all learners — from short refreshers for those with plenty of experience to comprehensive packages for beginners. Check out our courses for full details on each, or visit our course recommenders to find your right fit.
A UK familiarisation course is generally designed for individuals who hold a valid driving license from another country and need to familiarize themselves with UK driving practices. If you already own a UK driving license, you may not need to take a familiarisation course unless you feel the need to brush up on your driving skills or have specific requirements.
If you end up passing with fewer lessons than you booked, you may be allowed to use these for further tuition (motorway tuition, for example). Unfortunately, due to the all-inclusive nature of our courses, any unused hours are non-refundable.

FAQs for Eco-Driving Lessons
Eco-safe driving, also known as eco-driving, is a driving technique that focuses on minimising fuel consumption and reducing the environmental impact of vehicles. It involves adopting driving practices and habits that prioritise efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
The main goal of eco-safe driving is to achieve optimal fuel efficiency by minor adjustments to driving behaviour. By implementing eco-driving techniques, drivers can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
Choosing eco-safe driving offers multiple benefits, including cost savings on fuel, reduced environmental impact, increased safety, extended vehicle lifespan, a positive driving experience, and social responsibility.
Here are some fundamental principles of eco-safe driving:
- Smooth Acceleration and Deceleration: Eco-driving emphasises gentle acceleration and braking to maintain a consistent and efficient speed. Gradual starts and stops help to conserve fuel and reduce emissions.
- Maintain a Steady Speed: Consistently maintaining an appropriate speed ensures safety and contributes to fuel efficiency. Avoid unnecessary fluctuations in speed whenever possible.
- Anticipate Traffic Flow: Observing traffic ahead and anticipating changes in speed or road conditions allows smoother driving and reduces the need for sudden braking or acceleration.
- Plan Ahead: Efficient route planning can help minimise mileage and reduce the time spent on the road. Avoid unnecessary detours and congested routes whenever possible.
- Use Gears Wisely: Shifting gears appropriately can optimise fuel efficiency. Monitor the engine RPM (revolutions per minute) and shift gears accordingly.
- Reduce Idle Time: Minimise idling whenever possible. If you expect to be stationary for more than a minute, it’s usually more fuel-efficient to turn off the engine and restart when necessary.
- Maintain Vehicle Condition: Regular vehicle maintenance, including proper tire inflation, clean air filters, and timely servicing, ensures optimal performance and fuel efficiency.
By practising eco-safe driving techniques, drivers can save money on fuel costs and contribute to reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. It’s a responsible approach to driving that benefits both the environment and your wallet.
Steer clear of sharp acceleration, abrupt braking, or late shifting. Not only do these practices increase fuel consumption, but they also accelerate the wear and tear of your vehicle. Instead, let’s aim to flow harmoniously with the traffic.
Avoid fully pressing down on the accelerator and exceeding the appropriate speed limit when overtaking. Doing so can eliminate the need to reduce your speed drastically after overtaking. This way, unnecessary hard braking (which wastes the energy applied during acceleration) can be avoided. It is recommended to utilise engine braking or fuel cut-off for optimal results. Release the accelerator while the gear is engaged, and the engine will brake mechanically.
You can even employ engine braking in advance, such as when approaching red traffic lights or hazardous situations. Rather than stopping abruptly, ease off the accelerator and gradually roll up to the traffic light. By rolling with the fuel cut-off, you automatically engage the brakes. You can safely resume your journey once the light turns green or the hazard clears. This ensures a seamless and eco-friendly driving experience. Waiting at traffic lights or in stationary queues in neutral does not save much fuel. Particularly on familiar roads, consider switching off your engine at red lights or during stationary traffic to conserve fuel.
Avoid prolonged idling and switch off your engine. Embrace smooth and gentle driving habits – accelerate gradually, read the road ahead to avoid unnecessary braking, and decelerate smoothly by releasing the accelerator on time while keeping the car in gear.
Unless your car has an automatic stop/start system, refrain from switching off the engine solely to save fuel unless it is already warm or you anticipate not moving for approximately 3 minutes.
Optimise fuel efficiency and safety by using the highest possible gear. Learn how to make the most of your gears in different driving situations.
